What is women who write?
WomenWhoWrite (WWW) is committed to creating time and space for women and non-binary writers so they can focus on their writing away from the distractions and pressures of modern life. Founded in 2024 our mission is to empower women writers to achieve their writing goals whether personal or professional or creative.
What do we do?
Writing retreats
We host one day writing retreats and soon we’ll host weekend retreats. These are opportunities to spend an extended period of time focusing on your project with the only interuption being tea, coffee or breaks to chat with your fellow writers
SEASONAL AND THEMED EVENTS
We love hosting and creating unusual or themed writing events. For Halloween we hosted a Murder, She Crowed where writers collaborated on writing a murder mystery podcast episode.
LITERARY THEMED TRIPS
We like to get out and about. We host trips around Scotland and within the UK, usually with some kind of literary theme. It could be a visit to Sir Walter Scots House or a unique independent bookshop.
WRITING CHALLENGES
Sometimes you need motivation, accountability and inspiration to finish your writing projects so we’ve created a community writing challenege that we host twice yearly.
REGULAR FOCUSED WRITING SESSIONS
Writing takes time, patience and focus. So we run weekly sessions which you can use to focus, uninteruppted on your writing project. These are usually in cafes or private spaces.
CRITIQUE SESSIONS
Sharing your work can be hard, it takes vulnerabiltiy and courage but it’s incredibly rewarding. We host critique sessions where writers share their work and them come together to discuss it constructively with helpful feedback. We ensure the group is friendly and supportive and safe.
what do women who write stand for?
Our mission is to create as many opportunities for women and NB writers to focus on their writing by creating the time and space to write, whilst fostering a nuturing and supprtive commuity. Both women and non-binary writers have historically been excluded from writing spaces and the support they bring. Our events, online groups and social media are there to fill that gap, providing a community where our members don’t have to write in isolation.
If you identify as a woman or non-binary or otherwise feel aligned with the experience of womanhood, and you feel you would benefit from the group, then you will fit right in!
We also recognise that other writers face significant hurdles to writing in community, including older persons, persons with disabilities, parents and guardians, those from ethnic minorities and those who identify as LGBTI+. Inclusion lies at the heart of what we do: Our goal is to create safe and accessible events for writers. We are committed to fostering our diverse membership, and we welcome all feedback to ensure we meet the needs of anyone looking to be a part of our community.
