Happy BIRTHDAY WOMEN, WHO WRITE EDINBURGH!
Our first writing meet-up as Women Who Write was Monday 5th February 2024 at Mayvn Cafe (an absolute favourite), and almost exactly a year later on Monday 3rd February 2025 we’re having a party to celebrate (read on for your invitation!)
We were nine writers on our first evening, gathered around a single table. It was lovely, wholesome, creative, and productive. Since that night, we’ve met up every other Monday evening to write in company, and, as well as that, we’ve also hosted By the Beach Writing Retreats, literary-themed trips in Scotland and England, bookshop crawls, Late Night Write, Rise and Write, book swap picnics, writing challenges resulting in over half a million words written, as well as many ad-hoc community led meet-ups. We’ve grown as a community and as writers. Some people have secured agents this year, finished their first drafts, written screenplays, and finished articles. It has been amazing to witness.
None of the above would have been possible without the fantastic organising team; there’s myself (Dominique), Kadie, Abbie, and Lauren. We all have, I must say, worked pretty tirelessly over these last 12 months, on top of our full-time jobs, to put on all of these events. The year would not have been the same or possible without us working as a fabulously passionate team. Lauren has gone above and beyond with her amazing artistic talents, whether in graphic design, photography, illustration (or making paper crows)! Abbie has been a relentless and passionate organiser of our retreats and writing challenges (which, as I said, resulted in over half a million words written!) as well as editing all of our copy, and Kadie has been full of fantastic, out-of-the-box, creative ideas for our events (dreaming up our murder mystery workshops) and places to go on trips (Alnwick and Abbotsford were just so lovely and unique)! Ellie (who has sadly left Scotland for pastures new) was instrumental with our logo and organising our St Andrew’s trip!
